Is Your Child Rounding Third for Ozzie?

Posted Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 by schittenden

Dear Hoover Community,

We are in the final home stretch of our Ozzie Reading program, which will conclude on March 2nd. We are very excited and proud of our Hoover Students. As of Tuesday, February 21st, most of our students have turned in their third base reading logs and are heading rapidly toward home plate. On May 29th, Hoover Math and Science Academy students and staff will celebrate their homeruns by enjoying a day in the park, as they watch the Kane County Cougars baseball team. (This is a field trip that will take place during the school day.) Our students will receive a free t-shirt and have a chance to walk around the bases prior to the game start. The baseball game begins at 11:00 a.m. We will enjoy a day out in the fresh air, while eating a hot dog, laughing with friends and celebrating another wonderful school year full of accomplishments. Therefore, we want all of our students participating in this event. Specific details in regard to the all-school field trip will be given in April. The teachers will hold all tickets for the game, until game day. We want to thank our parents for their continued support.

Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Polanco & the HMSA Staff

Thoughts from Mr. Chung

Dear Terrific HMSA Community,
As I am sure many of you already know, ISAT testing is just around the corner. Although we continue to stick with our daily schedules and academic routines, things do start to look a little different for students starting on March 5th. Our third through sixth graders will take part in statewide testing Tuesday, March 6. Make up testing will take place the week of March 12. We need your help the week of the 5th being extra vigilant with alarm clocks, making sure students arrive to school on time and are ready to begin testing. If you can avoid/reschedule doctor, dentist or other appointments for your child/children during this week we would greatly appreciate it! And as always, we want to stress the importance of making sure students are well rested and have a healthy breakfast.

Because of our partnership many of you want to know how to help your child get ready for these tests. The high quality instruction our staff provides and your positive support throughout the year is what continues to make our students well prepared. We want this to be a positive experience for your child/children so just remind them to Do Their Best and that you Believe In Them. We sure do! This is just one more opportunity for them to show all they’ve learned.

Just a reminder report cards will be coming home on March 7th.

Have a wonderful week.

Sincerely,

Jake Chung

Kindergarten Registration – Wednesday, February 23rd!

Posted Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 by schittenden

School District 54 will hold kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012. Registration will take place from 9-11 a.m., 1-2:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at all elementary schools. Parents should go to their neighborhood school to register their child, even if they are applying to attend a school other than their neighborhood school.

Only those children whose fifth birthday falls on or before Sept. 1, 2012, are eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the fall term, 2012.

The registration process takes about 30 minutes. Parents will fill out entrance materials, and will be given physical examination forms and general school information. More information and some of the registration forms can be found on our website at http://sd54.org/registration/.

Additionally, the parent or legal guardian must provide the following information to complete the enrollment process:

· Proof of immunizations

· Birth Certificate (original with seal). Official birth certificates are issued by the county clerk in the county in which the child was born. Hospital certificates are not acceptable.

· Proof of residence

· Phone numbers of people to be contacted in emergencies (neighbors, other family members and work numbers)

Any person asserting legal custody over a student, who is not the student’s parent or legal guardian, must complete the Nonparent Custody Form (available at time of registration).

Parents or guardians are required to pay a consumable materials fee by check or money order for each child to cover the cost of workbooks, paper, art supplies, and other items used by students. The cost is $50 for each kindergarten through eighth-grade student. The form is available in the registration packet and online.

ISAT Testing Begins March 5th!

Posted Friday, February 10th, 2012 by schittenden

Dear Terrific HMSA Community,
I hope that you had a great week. We want to thank everyone that attended our family math night this past Wednesday! We also wanted to let you know that ISAT testing begins the week of March 5th and lasts for two weeks. Please make every effort to ensure children are at school and on time every day. Absences due to vacations and doctor appointments make it difficult for our 3rd -6th grade students to take their tests in a consistent test friendly environment. We have a strong academic reputation and we want our students to be very successful.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Jake Chung

Fourth Academic Achievement Award for HMSA

Posted Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 by schittenden

Dear Terrific HMSA Community,

This morning HMSA was recognized for receiving the Academic Achievement Award from the Illinois State Board of Education. The Illinois Honor Roll celebrates the accomplishments of Illinois public schools that are providing high quality education for all their students. 438 schools received this award this year out of the over 3900 schools in the state.

State Superintendent Chris Koch presented the awards to our school and Mrs. Hagenberg, Ms. Cardoza, Sam H. and Madison K. were on hand to accept this award on our school’s behalf.

This is the fourth consecutive year we have received this award. Twelve other District 54 schools were recognized as well. On behalf of Schaumburg School District 54 and the entire HMSA staff, we would like to thank you for your support. It is because of your commitment and hard work that we receive these types of acknowledgements. We look forward to receiving another school banner to highlight our achievements. J
