The Elgin Symphony

Posted April 19th, 2012 by katherinet

On April 18, the 4th graders at Hoover went to see the Elgin Symphony Orchestra at Hemmens theater. Their theme was “The Colors of Music”. They listened to 9 different pieces, including “The Twittering Machine” and America’s official march, “Stars and Stripes Forever”. The conductor talked a lot about the different instruments. A favorite instrument was the oboe. The Elgin Symphony Orchestra put on a great performance for the 4th graders of Hoover school!

Let us Entertain You-Collecting for Soldiers

Posted April 18th, 2012 by sydneyh

The soldiers work hard to protect us, so what can we do to help them?  We can send them entertaining items and comfort items because they get really bored during their down time.  Think about what you do when your are bored:  Whatch movies, play games, read, or snack. It doesn’t matter to them as long as they have somthing to do. They our tired of hot wheather and boredom so they need comforts from home.

Please help our soldiers out by sending in the following items, preferably in travel sizes:

  1. bug spray
  2. sunscreen
  3. toiletries
  4. wipes
  5. drink packets
  6. candy (no chocolate-except m & ms)
  7. games
  8. magazines
  9. small battery opperated fans with batteries
  10. neckbands to absorb water
  11. men’s flip flops
  12. beef jerky

and lots of letters .

Please send all items to school to be put in the boxes outside of Mrs. Hellesen’s classroom.

Wake Up and Read

Posted November 3rd, 2011 by Mrs. Benson

This week started the Wake Up and Read program in the Hoover Resource Center.  All Hoover students are invited to the library for a quiet time to sit and read a book they have brought with them.

Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

When: 8:00-8:25

Students need to be in the library no later than 8:05.  This is a time for quiet reading, not doing homework or chatting.  There is no book checkout at this time, either.
