A Message from Mrs. Ankrom – May 26, 2018

Dear Hoover Community,

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost here! Now is the time that we start to think about activities to keep our children busy during Summer Break. The number one question asked by parents is, “How can I help my child at home?” The simplest answer is to read with your children. Research shows that children whose families read with them do better in school. Reading over the summer will also help the students when they return to school in August.

Celebrations:

This week staff and students enjoyed watching artwork in action by David Zinn! The Daily Herald made an appearance at the presentation and wrote an article about his work at Hoover. Thank you to Mrs. Wiskirchen for organizing the event and thank you to our PTA for donating money to help sponsor these wonderful activities for our students.

Celebrate Learning was the perfect way to end the year. Students proudly showed their families the work they have done in school and received positive notes and feedback from their parents. Thank you to our PTA for hosting the BOGO Book Fair! We hope the students enjoy reading their new books over the summer. Thank you to the Garden Club for selling our plants at the event!

Lost and Found items:

The Lost and Found box is overflowing with coats, boots, gloves, sweaters, sweatshirts, backpacks, lunch boxes, shirts, etc.  Please stop by if your child is missing something. Items that are not claimed will be donated.

District 54 Virtual Learning University:

Are you searching for an innovative way to empower your children over the summer? Are you looking for a comprehensive approach to summer learning that combats boredom and keeps everyone engaged? Look no further! We have created a new website with a wide range of challenges at each grade level to help prevent the summer slide. Visit the School District 54 Virtual Learning University to tackle challenges for literacy, math, science, social science, language and culture too!  Each content area has multiple challenges to keep your children’s minds focused and active throughout the summer weeks! Within each category you will find family activities, individual activities and places to visit in our community and surrounding areas.  We hope you’ll encourage your children to visit our Virtual Learning University often throughout the summer to challenge themselves and to keep your family learning together. Click here to access the Virtual Learning University or find the link under Popular Links on the District 54 website.

Hoover Hawk:

Click here to access this week’s issue of the HAWK and have a beautiful weekend!
