A Message From Mrs. Rosenblum

Dear HMSA Families,

Our school slogan this year is Together We Shine Brighter which includes our partnership with parents. Our slogan was influenced by the principles of the Happiness Advantage and Big Potential, which revolves around positive psychology.  Each family in the district received a copy of The Orange Frog Family Guide on Curriculum NightThis is a great story to read as a family.  If you have not read this yet, I hope you will find time in the near future to read the book together.  We look forward to bringing the principles of Positive Psychology alive in our daily work with your children!

As you learned at Curriculum Night, we are dedicated to ensuring the success of the whole child. One of the ways we are doing that this year is by implementing our social emotional learning curriculum. We want you to know what your child is learning about and how you can extend that learning at home. Our focus this month is School Culture and Climate. We are already seeing staff and students doing a great job creating a positive culture for learning in their classrooms. Please click here for more information. Home-School Connections

Get your smiles ready! Picture Day is tomorrow, September 11th!

Erin’s Law
Four years ago, we began implementing a child sexual abuse prevention program in our schools as the result of the passage of Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. This law expands upon previous legislation and requires child sexual abuse prevention education for children beginning in pre-kindergarten and continuing through all grade levels. Our students will participate in lessons in their classrooms in October. Please contact us at (847) 357-5800 with any specific questions.

A Note from the Nurse
Attention parents of Kindergarteners, 6th graders and new students who have NOT submitted the required physical examination and immunizations in accordance with the Illinois School Code (Section 27-8). Please be sure these requirements are met and the appropriate paperwork is received by our school nurse. Please send these documents to our school nurse ASAP. Your child will be excluded from school on OCT. 15  if he/she is not in compliance.

Run to Read on September 23rd
District 54 is hosting its annual Run to Read, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 at Dirksen Elementary School in Schaumburg. The day includes school mascot races at 7:30 a.m., 100-yard and 400-yard dashes for children at 8 a.m., a 5K run at 8:45 a.m. and a 1-mile family walk at 9 a.m. Although you can register at any time, even the morning of the race, you will save $5 and be guaranteed a Tshirt in the size you requested if you register by Sept. 1. The Run to Read is an awesome opportunity to promote healthy living by encouraging your children to exercise, or even better, by joining them on the walk or run.
