Materials Pick Up and Drop Off

Dear HMSA Families,

As we begin to wind down to the end of the school year, we have been working closely with the district to create a plan to close the school for summer break.  I wanted to take a minute to thank our incredible Hoover Hawk students. Aren’t they amazing? We can learn so much from our younger generations on many things, but especially how quickly people can adjust to change.  We are so proud of each and every one of them. 

We know that students still have belongings at school and school materials at home.  We will begin the process of collecting all materials the week of May 11th.  It is extremely important not only our families but our staff adhere to the CDC and state guidelines for social distancing during this process.  In order to do this, we will be limiting the number of staff members in the building throughout the day as well utilizing safety precautions such as gloves and masks when in and around the building. 

The week of May 18th, we are asking all our families to participate in our material drop off and pick up.  Below are the guidelines and schedules for our building.  We appreciate your flexibility in understanding that in order to follow the safety guidelines put forth by the governor we are only allowing two grade levels per day on our school grounds. Please read the directions below carefully. This will keep our process as safe as possible for everyone and help keep us on time.

May 29th, will be our Technology Drop Off Day for Second Grade and Non-returning students ONLY.  Please notify the office if your child you have or will be moving and will not be returning to Hoover for the 20-21 school year.  This does not include our current 6th graders moving up to a District 54 junior high. You will keep your devices for the summer unless you are leaving District 54.  We will be utilizing the same procedures as the Materials Drop Off Day for our second grade families and non-returning families. Our second graders use iPads our third graders use Chromebooks. This is the reason second graders are being asked to return their iPads. 

Materials to Return: Student Material Drop off and Pick Up 

  • All district materials (with the exception of iPads/Chromebooks).  Such items include: library books, guided reading books, textbooks and safety vests for our 6th grade patrols. 5th grade patrols should keep their vests over the summer..  

  • Please place all items into one trash bag and label it. Please make two signs. Use two 8.5×11 sheets of paper. Please write in large letters your child’s room number and last name. In small letters put their first name at the bottom of the paper. Attach one sign to the trash bag with items being returned to the school. Place the other sign in the passenger window. This will help staff identify you as you drive through.

  • Please place the bag in the trunk of your car.

  • Parents will enter our parking lot and follow the same procedures we use for morning drop off when school is in session. Please follow the curb around the front of the school. Please pull as far forward as possible. Please be sure the sign with your child’s room number and  last name is clearly visible in the passenger window. 

  • We will be utilizing curbside drop off procedures.  All families must remain in the car at all times.  Hoover  staff will take the bag out of your trunk and replace it with a bag of your child’s school belongings.

Please know that teachers will not be available online to students or parents on the day where they are assigned to be at the building for material collection and pack up. There are additional days teachers will not be available to students and will not be providing lessons since they will be at the building working to close down classrooms.   Enrichment lessons and activities will be provided to students for completion on these days.

  • Hoover families will pick up and drop off their students materials at the assigned times.We know that some of you have more than one child. We ask that you come to the assigned time for each of your children.

  • Please know that any materials not picked up by our families will be discarded at the end of the day.

  • We will be utilizing curbside drop off procedures.  All families must remain in the car at all times.  Hoover staff will collect Ipad/Chromebooks from the trunk of your car.
