Dear Hoover Families:
Today I was made aware that two of our students were approached after school yesterday by an adult man while playing at the park behind the school after school hours. I contacted the Schaumburg Police Department who were able to identify the man and do not feel he is a danger.
The safety of your children is very important to all of us who work here in District 54. Please remind your children about ways to stay safe. When children are approached by strangers after school hours, they should tell a trusted adult and have that adult contact the police. That is exactly what happened in this situation.
While talking to your children, please let them know that if anyone approaches them on their way to school, they should let their teacher or me know as soon as they arrive at school. To support you with this conversation, we recommend this article (What to Teach Kids About Strangers) from the National Crime Prevention Council.
Any questions or information about the incident can be directed to the Schaumburg Police Department (847) 882-3534.
