Our teachers are intentional in creating a positive learning environment for our students. With that in mind, one of our goals at Hoover is to help students practice self-discipline in order to take ownership over their behavior and the impact it has on themselves and others. Behavior that is disruptive to the education process and infringes upon the rights of others will not be tolerated. Below is the consistent structure for progressive consequences that is utilized across all locations in the school throughout the day including during arrival/dismissal, specials, acceleration periods, lunch, and recess.
- First infraction: Warning from staff
- Second infraction: Classroom issued consequence and potential phone call home
- Third infraction: Second level classroom issued consequence and required parent phone call
- Fourth infraction: All of the above and referral to the office
- Severe Clause: Dangerous or extreme off-task behaviors will be immediately referred to the office
As stated above, students displaying “Severe Clause” behavior will receive an immediate referral to the office and parents/guardians will be contacted by a school administrator. Examples of “Severe Clause” behaviors would include: fighting; insubordination; serious verbal abuse or use of profanity or obscenity; acts that jeopardize the health, safety, and welfare of another; repeated and willful behavior that constitutes disregard for the rules and regulations of the school; and chronic behaviors involving classroom disruptions or inappropriate language.
Our goal is to teach students positive behaviors so that all students can work in a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and conducive to maximum learning potential. We appreciate your support and partnership. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our structure for progressive consequences.
