Empty Bowls Project

Hoover staff created ceramic bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls Night!  The Empty Bowls Project is an international, grassroots, craft based effort to end hunger.  On May 8th, students, families, and our local community will set up tables to display the bowls, and serve soup and bread to the staff.  $5 donations from our guests are much appreciated.  For more information regarding the Empty Bowls Project, please visit http://www.emptybowls.net

Third Grade Visits the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago

Last week the third graders in Mr. Antosz’s Class took a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. They were able to expand their knowledge about weather as they learned from the Science Storms exhibit. Many students were able to see baby chicks hatch and make connections to their life cycles and traits unit. Finally, some students learned about our nation’s history as they explored a submarine from World War II.

A Message From Mrs. Ankrom – March 17, 2018

Dear Hoover Community,

It has been another great week here at Hoover! We had so many families attend Moms and Muffins that we had to split the event into two days. This was a great start to the morning for students and staff. Thank you for all families that were able to attend. I believe the chocolate chip muffin was the most popular with students!

Celebrations

We were lucky to have students recognized last evening at the Board of Education meeting for their contributions to the PTA Reflections program. In addition, we had students whose artwork was displayed at the Prairie Art Center in Schaumburg and will be on display until March 26th. Several of our students enjoyed performing at the Keller and Eisenhower concerts this past week. Our students and staff make us proud that we are a part of an incredible district and school community. We thank you for your support.

Summer Camp Offerings

School District 54 is offering several summer camp opportunities for students to enhance creativity and innovation. To learn more about these opportunities and to register, please view the SD54 Summer Camp Brochure.  The registration window opens today!

Safety Drill

Today our kids practiced a Hard lockdown drill.  This is the drill that students and staff would use if there was ever a dangerous intruder in the building or a serious situation that could jeopardize the safety of our students and staff.  Our students and staff along with the support of the Schaumburg Police Department did an amazing job!

Classroom of the Week – Third Grade Room 121

The third graders in room 121 have been working very hard this year. Most recently, the students have been reading a variety of informational texts to practice different skills such as finding the main idea or comparing and contrasting. In unit 7, we learned about communities around the word. Each community had something unique about itself, but we learned that all communities can be described in similar ways. In writing, the students have been practicing their argumentative skills. The students persuaded readers on whether they should choose a cat or dog as a pet. Currently, the students are convincing people about if we should have zoos or not. This week the class is taking a field trip to the Museum of Science Industry. While we are there, we will expand our learning about severe weather. Overall, the students are working very hard. We have set very high expectations for ourselves for the remainder of the school year
